Prudence
Prudence is the first in a series of stories about the Turnham
Malpas village in the past. This one is written about a laundry
maid at Turnham House at the time of the Napoleonic Wars. She is
trapped, working the whole day long in the steaming conditions of
the laundry, but filled with ambitions to improve her lot and longing
to be somewhere else in the wide world that lies beyond her village.
Astute readers will notice that all the people in the story are
ancestors of those living in the village today. Enjoy! click
