About Barleybridge:
'I do like Kate. I'm sorry she's got into Veterinary college, because
we
shan't hear about her any more.'
'I could have cried when Scott went back to Australia. He's such
a love,
and so attractive. Bring back Scott, I say. '
'He's a bad boy. First one and then another. Kate was better off
with
him gone. He'd never have married her. I wonder if that baby Bunty
miscarried is his? We never really knew did we? She never said.'
'I love Mungo. He's so clever and so handsome. Miriam's lovely
though.
She's so sweet. She'd have made a lovely mother. Pity their children
died.'
'What I can't understand is who is the father of Zoe's little boy?
Will
you tell me?'
'Tell you who I like, it's Rose with her American step father,
whatsisname? I know Lloyd Kominski. Rose has such a lovely nature.
You'd never think she was wealthy, would you? Married
to Dan even though his squeaky clean morals annoy
her sometimes. They were made for each other weren't they?'
'That Scott, is he coming back? I wish he would.'
'I love the covers. Which one do you like best?'
'Give me that Country Lovers paperback cover, so romantic by the
lake.'
'In Barleybridge I love meeting all the people bringing their animals
in
for treatment and the lovely way the vets are all so kind and
understanding.'
'Sometimes I wish I worked there, be so interesting, especially
when the
dogs start fighting and I'd get the firebucket to fill up and throw
it
over them.'
'It makes me cry though when they have to be put down, the animals
I
mean. It's so sad, but it's like real life is.'
About Turnham Malpas:
'My best character of all in Turnham Malpas is Jimbo Charter-Plackett
in the Store. I like the way he keeps firing Linda who does the post
office
and then has to take her back. But she'll be getting him mad once
too
often and he'll sack her for good.'
'I love it when they get behind the tinned soups in the store and
you
hear all the latest news.'
'And the rector! He's gorgeous and so handsome! But such a naughty
boy,
but who can blame him? But he's so lovely the way he deals with
people.'
'Oh! Is it the one about the rector? The one with the twins that
are his
but not hers? How did that come about then?'
'Which cover do you like the best? I like the one of the village
pond
and the children fishing, so much to look at.'
'Are the twins going to meet their real mother? I think they must
one
day it's only right, but when will it be?'
'Just wish I lived there. In a village with all those lovely people.'
'So do I! Bliss! Can't wait for the next one to come out!'
'The characters in these lovely books are all so warm and loving,
they are just like old friends. What a fantastic writer you are.'
Kim
'I regard your books as treasures, I am so glad I discovered them.
I am now in 70's and have arthritis so although I have read for
as long as I remember, it is even more important to me now. Your
books are so well written they are top of my list, thank you. I
just wanted to express my delight to you as I am reading Intrigue
in the Village. So thank you so very much for your books I would
like to live in that village.'
Marjorie Brown
‘How sad I was to come to the end of TURNHAM MALPAS. Oh,
how I enjoyed all the wonderful characters… Your stories are
full of humour, tragedy and mystery. I feel I am living with the
characters. What a wonderful writer you are – thank you so
much for giving me, and I am sure many others, hours of enjoyment.’
* Jill from Devon
‘The books you have written are truly a delight. All absorbing
and (I) thank you for them. I do hope we see more in the future’
* Elizabeth, Rotorua, New Zealand
'The villagers who live in Turnham Malpas are my friends.
I share all their worries and dramas and can't wait for the next
Village book to come out. I worry about Peter, Caroline and their
twins.'
* Stephanie from Brighton
'I love the Barleybridge books because even though they have awful
troubles of their own the people working in the practice care so
much about the animals.'
* Sally from Cirencester
''With warmth and humour and a touch of mischief, Rebecca Shaw has
brought us another wonderful instalment of village life.' This is
the publisher's statement of the book and one that is totally correct.
A beautiful book to read over a restful weekend; a book in which
you can become engrossed, in a space away from everyday life, and
realise that even lives in idyllic surroundings can have pain, hidden
misdemeanours and deception. The characters and their place in the
village stay with you after you have finished the book. The characters
are strong and sincere enough to make you want to turn the pages;
the whole book is a joy to read.'
* Heather from Essex
'It's so refreshing to read a book about people who are not obsessed
with sex and violence. The characters are so colourful and believable
it's difficult to think they're not real'
Terry from Stafford
'From the first to the last page I was enthralled with every character
in the village of Turnham Malpas'
